Why would you want to Breed or Buy a Racehorse in the GREY band, where you have a 5% chance of success,
while
you can Breed or Buy a Racehorse from, the YELLOW band, that can give you a 39% chance to achieve your Black Type STAR!!!
Another way to explain the impact of Breeding in the Colour Bands driven breeding
And to make it more comprehensive, we change the TARGET to the workable T-BAS CARD, which looks like this:
And
and an early market entrant
At this stage MINE FOR GOLD has only produced three (3) Stakes placed progeny. The 2 behind “Northern Dancer 2” indicates that there are 2 progeny, with Northern Dancer in the PS4 position. It may be too early to judge his status as a successful Sire and this T-BAS CARD is newly generated but there is going to the need to choose many more RIGHT mares in the YELLOW and ORANGE Bands to set him on the map. It may be that this Sire can still be saved before being considered as a failed Sire.
As it stands this Sire is in trouble if he does not produce Black Type soon.
As the TARGET only shows Black Type only, the TARGET for MINE FOR GOLD will look like this as it stands today:
A completely BLANK Target!!
Breeding or Buying according to the Colour Bands gives one a certain realistic expectation and that is to breed or have a horse that can reach a certain TARGET, which can be as good as a Group 1 winner but at least be realistic to have a offspring that can achieve the BEST to its ability.
Don't bargain on a Group 1 winner when breeding/buying in the YELLOW Band if the Mare does not have any Black Type record in its pedigree. In this latter case one can at least believe that this choice of mating can give one a multiple winner.
